Cannabis is a powerful plant. That's part of what makes it fascinating โ and part of what makes treating it with respect so important. Whether you're new to the club or a long-standing member, mindful consumption is a practice you can always refine. Here are our team's most important recommendations.
Start Low, Go Slow
The most common mistake โ especially with concentrates or edibles โ is consuming too much too quickly. The effects of cannabis can take anywhere from a few minutes to over an hour to fully manifest depending on the method. Always begin with a smaller amount and wait at least 20โ30 minutes before deciding whether more is appropriate.
Set and Setting Matter
The concept of "set and setting" โ popularised in psychedelic research but equally applicable to cannabis โ refers to your mindset and the physical environment you're in. A calm, familiar, comfortable space with people you trust will almost always produce a better experience than an unfamiliar or stressful one.
Your Mindset
Don't consume when anxious, stressed, or emotionally overwhelmed. Set an intention for what you want from the session.
Your Environment
Choose a space where you feel safe and comfortable. Have water, snacks, and a comfortable seat ready.
Your Company
Consume with people you trust. The social dynamic affects your experience more than most people realise.
Your Timing
Avoid consuming before tasks that require full attention, driving, or professional obligations.
Stay Hydrated
Cannabis โ particularly smoking or vaping โ causes dry mouth (cottonmouth) and can contribute to mild dehydration. Keep a glass of water nearby throughout your session. Avoid alcohol as a combination, as it significantly amplifies the effects and can cause discomfort.
Know Your Products
Different cultivars (strains) have meaningfully different effects. Broadly:
- Sativa-dominant varieties tend to produce more uplifting, cerebral, and energetic effects โ better suited for social settings or creative activities.
- Indica-dominant varieties tend to be more relaxing, body-focused, and sedating โ well suited for unwinding or sleep.
- Hybrids offer a balance and vary enormously โ ask our team what to expect from any specific variety.
Our staff is always available to explain the terpene profile, THC/CBD ratio, and expected effects of any product in our collection. Don't hesitate to ask.
Club Etiquette
At The High Doctor CSC, we share a space โ which means we share a responsibility to make it welcoming for everyone:
- Keep noise at a respectful level, especially during evening sessions.
- Clean up after yourself. Our staff work hard to keep the club spotless.
- Be mindful of others' smoke โ always ask before sharing.
- Respect privacy. What happens in the club, stays in the club.
- If you see a fellow member who seems uncomfortable or who has consumed too much, look out for them. That's what community means.
